lifestyle, with great accommodation and heaps of tourist attractions
thrown in, then you'll love the Gold Coast of Australia.
The Gold Coast is a coastal city located in the South East of
Queensland, Australia. The city is 94 km (58 mi) south of the state
capital Brisbane. It is the second most populous city in the state, the
sixth most populous city in the country, and the most populous
non-capital city in Australia.
The Gold Coast has the largest cross-state metropolitan area population
in Australia, due to the inclusion of Tweed Heads, New South Wales in
its metropolitan area. The Gold Coast's metropolitan area converges
with that of Greater Brisbane, forming part of an urban conurbation of
over 3 million people.
While the origin of the city's name is debatable, the name "Gold Coast"
was bestowed upon the city by real estate investors. The first
settlement in what is now South East Queensland was as a penal colony
at Redcliffe. The Gold Coast region remained largely uninhabited by
Europeans until 1823 when explorer John Oxley landed at Mermaid Beach.
The hinterland's red cedar supply attracted people to the area in the
mid-19th century. Later in 1875, Southport was surveyed and established
and grew a reputation as a secluded holiday destination for upper
class Brisbane residents.
The Gold Coast region grew significantly after the establishment of the
Surfers Paradise hotel in the late 1920s. The area boomed in the 1980s
as a leading tourist destination and in 1994, the Gold Coast City
local government area was expanded to encompass the majority of the
Gold Coast's metropolitan area, becoming the second most populous local
government area in Australia after the City of Brisbane. The Gold
Coast is today a major tourist destination with its sunny subtropical
climate, surfing beaches, canal and waterway systems, its high-rise
dominated skyline, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland,
making tourism one of its most significant industries. Gold Coast will
host the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Places to See
From the iconic Surfers Paradise beach to the sophisticated dining
precincts of Main Beach and Broadbeach and out to the lush, green
Hinterland, there’s a new experience waiting for you at every turn on
the Gold Coast.
Theme parks, world-renowned beaches and year-round sunshine are just a
few of the reasons 10.5 million visitors flock to this vibrant city each
year - a destination which is as scenic and peaceful as it is fast
paced and active.
Things to do
The attractions of the Gold Coast bring smiles to people of all ages and
stages. With exhilarating rides, exotic animals and endless waterslides
to help you cool off on hot summer days, the Gold Coast offers a full
spectrum of interactive entertainment - from dazzling big budget theme
parks to small, hilariously kitsch museums.
Tours to take
No matter where in the world you travel, there's nothing like having a local to show you around.
Let a Gold Coast tour operator show you where to hand-feed wild parrots,
embark on a night-hike to a waterfall lit up by glow worms, or meet the
region’s resident turtles and dolphins onboard a boat or kayaking tours
to nearby islands.
Why Gold Coast?

famous Gold Coast is Australia at its best. Experience the largest
selection of beaches, sub-tropical rainforest, theme parks, nightlife,

to detail, the Gold Coast is a destination perfectly suited to the
education, entertainment, development and reward of delegates from every

our dedication to successful business events is unrivalled. Every year
our convention centres and venues host more than 4000 meetings,
conventions and incentive programs. - Increased Attendance
The popularity of the Gold Coast generates strong attendance for
business events held here. Delegate and partner interest increases and
overall satisfaction is very positive. - Value
Accommodation, transport, meals and activities are much more cost
effective on the Gold Coast as we don’t suffer from the inflated costs
of a capital city even though we are Australia’s sixth largest city and
fastest growing region. - Variety
The Gold Coast has more attractions than any other destination in
the southern hemispheres which everyone can experience. These include 70
kilometres of famous beaches, 100,000 hectares of world heritage listed
rainforest, a dozen theme parks, 500 cafes and restaurants, and some of
the largest shopping centres in Australia. - Weather
Over 300 days of sunshine every year and an average temperature of
23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit) makes the Gold Coast a year
round option for business events of every size. - Air Access
Gold Coast Airport is less than 30 minutes drive to the centre of
Surfers Paradise, while Brisbane Domestic and International Airport is
less than one hours drive. Direct flights to and from all capital cities
and regional areas, plus a majority of metropolitan centres across the
globe are readily available through a wide range of airlines. - Transport
The close proximity of Gold Coast hotels, in many cases, eliminates
the need for on ground transportation as delegates can walk to many
venues and activities. When transportation is required options include
bus, taxi, shuttles and rail. - Dining
The multicultural nature of the Gold Coast has brought about a
deliciously successful dining industry and attracted prominent
restaurateurs and operators from around the world to mix within the
city’s 500 restaurants. - Gold Coast Convention Bureau
The Gold Coast Convention Bureau is a leader in Australian business
events. Through our network of more than 500 Gold Coast venues and
service providers we supply the local experience that only an official
convention body can deliver.
The Gold Coast Convention Bureau is an assembly of the region’s best
sales, service, research and administration staff dedicated to making
every event on the Gold Coast a success. The team is committed to
providing superior product knowledge and facilitating a network of
